Welcome!

The Center for International Health (CIH) is an internationally recognized 501(c)3 organization that
offers training, consultation, technical assistance, material resources and health systems development
techniques to strengthen communities, their health care systems and the capabilities of their health
professionals in emerging and developing countries.

CIH serves as the lead agency of an area-wide consortium that comprises Milwaukee County
Government, Children's Hospital and Health System, Froedtert Memorial Hospital, the Medical College
of Wisconsin, the BloodCenter of Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, Marquette
University and GE Healthcare.

In carrying out its mission, CIH draws from the resources - faculty, health professionals, programs and
material - available through its consortium members, deploying these in a manner tailored to meet the
specific requirements of each program.
On Sunday afternoon, February 21, the
Center for International Health and
Immanuel Presbyterian Church will
welcome world renowned Swedish
saxophonist Johan Stengård to
Milwaukee for a benefit concert to raise
funds for Haiti earthquake relief.

The event is open to the public and will
be held at Immanuel Presbyterian
Church, 1100 N. Astor Street, at 3:
00pm.   A free-will offering will be
received with all proceeds benefiting
Haiti relief efforts.

A globe-trotting virtuoso on both tenor
and soprano saxophone, Mr. Stengård
has performed often in Chicago and
Milwaukee venues.  He has earned a
world-class reputation as a unique and
soulful musician known for his 17 solo
albums, more than a thousand solo
performances, and hundreds of
recordings as an orchestra musician.
His repertoire ranges from popular
favorites like “Somewhere Over the
Rainbow” and “Amazing Grace” to
classical masterpieces such as the
operatic “Nessun Dorma.” Between
selections, he integrates stories about
his personal history and world travels.

As we approach our 25th anniversary, we would like to extend a special thanks to
our consortium members, particularly Milwaukee County Government, which
founded and established the Center in 1985 with the award of a United States

Over the past twenty-five years, the Center has focused on the development of
primary healthcare systems, emergency medical services, hospital and health
policy administration, physician specialty and subspecialty training, nurse clinical
and management training, maternal and child health services, women's health
services, mental health and substance abuse programs, oral and dental health
services, chronic and infectious disease control and prevention programs, and
nutritional services.

If the past is prologue, the coming years are sure to hold many new opportunities
for the Center to bring health, healing and hope to those most in need. We look
forward to continuing CIH's rich history of providing high quality health education
and training activities worldwide.

In 2010, CIH will be conducting a series of high profile programmatic and
celebratory activities to commemorate its 25th anniversary.  These inaugural
activities will include the premiere exhibition at the Milwaukee Public Museum of
the “Afghan Girl” photo-portrait by the internationally renowned photographer
Steve McCurry, loaned from the collection of Dr. Thom R. Feroah.
