| MAYOR OF BUFFALO CITY, SOUTH AFRICA, VISITS MILWAUKEE COUNTY January, 2008 Executive Mayor Ntombentle Peter, Mayoral Special Advisor Peter King and Director for Executive Support Services Vuyo Zambodla, of Buffalo City, South Africa, recently visited Milwaukee County to re-establish a Sister Cities relationship encouraging mutually beneficial business, health, and cultural exchanges and supporting the development of a program of activities to strengthen the relationship. Executive Mayor Peter, Milwaukee County Board Chairman Lee Holloway and County Executive Scott Walker signed the historic Sister Cities agreement at the Milwaukee County Courthouse on Monday, January 28 with the hope that it will allow the linked regions to share information, skills and experience useful in improving the quality of life of their inhabitants. According to Milwaukee County Supervisor Mayo, "It is truly a win-win [situation] for [our] residents.” He added, “One of the most important aspects of this relationship is developing an international health initiative. Our goal is to build off of our history [with] the Center for International Health.” The Center, which partners with Children’s Health and Hospital System, Froedtert Hospital, the Medical College of Wisconsin, Marquette University, the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, the Blood Center of Wisconsin and GE Healthcare, facilitated the visit. |
