| USAID PRESENTS PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARDS TO CIH DOCTORS, DENTISTS AND NURSES July 2007 Mr. Brock Bierman, representing the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), presented 34 Milwaukee area doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists and nutritional specialists with the President’s Volunteer Service Award for work done during the course of American International Health Alliance (AIHA) Partnerships in the Republics of Georgia and Armenia and in Zambia. Doctors from the Medical College of Wisconsin and nurses from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee College of Nursing participated in the Lori Marz Rural Primary Health Care Development Partnership in Armenia as faculty/trainers and consultants, effectively improving the health of village families and communities by building the educational and training capacity of the Vanadzor Health Training Center. Pharmacists and doctors from Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin are participating in the first phase of an HIV/AIDS Partnership in Zambia, which is designed to improve the quality of HIV/AIDS care provided by pharmacists at the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Centers of Excellence at the University Hospital, Lusaka and in Livingstone. The project will enable Zambian pharmacists to organize and manage pharmacy services to ensure delivery of quality HIF/AIDS care for mothers, infants and children; and to establish pharmacists as practicing members of the ART Clinical Team by providing them with the requisite pharmaceutical knowledge and expertise. The President’s Volunteer Service Award is issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation on behalf of the President of the United States to recognize the best in American spirit and to encourage all Americans to work towards improving communities around the world through volunteer service and civic participation. |
